Old Habits Die Hard
2023
Though the itch may subside, it never fully goes away.
Although, on opening night of my thesis exhibition, I asked for some help scratching the itch I couldn't — didn't want to — reach.
On the window sill next to my work, a disposable camera (like the ones I used throughout the duration of my thesis) and a card with further instructions sat, waiting for participants. I instructed viewers of my exhibit to pick up the camera (turn on the flash — although not all followed directions) and snap a photo of themselves and/or others interacting with my work.
Just like itch & scab discusses, despite recognizing the negative impacts excessive documentation may have had on me, I will stop at nothing to capture the important moments in my life. This night was no different — I wanted to be able to look back on the faces of those who made this night so special. This way, I got to experience the magic in real time, too.
